Tires are a very important component because they help the car grip the road, make turns, and stop safely. Usually, tires can last for a long time, but it depends on a few things. The way a tire is made, what it's made of, the kind of car it's on, and how it's used can affect the life of the tire. Also, where and how you drive can make a big difference. In Oklahoma we have Rough Roads as well as Extreme Heat and Cold. This can really cause tires to wear quickly. You will also see a much shorter Tire life if you are an aggressive Driver. Accelerating and Stopping Quickly are hard on tires.
The most common reason for tires to be replace is that the Tread Depth is worn below specification. Above you can see photos of a new tire compared to one that is worn below useable life. At 4/32" or lower your tires are no longer handling water or any other elements as well as they should. This is the Depth that we recommend replacement. The next most common reason is for Weather or Age Cracking. As tires age the rubber that they are made from starts to deteriorate. This can cause an unsafe condition if the tire is compromised. We find that the average tire last around 3-5 years. That is, if you don't reach the mileage life.
At Priebe's Auto Clinic and Tire Center we check tires for Condition and Tread Depth at every visit. This helps us to ensure your safety as you drive down the road. Call us any time at 405-523-2172 or Visit us at pacokc.com/appointments to schedule a reservation.
